After their family store is forced to close, Elmer (Jacob Tremblay) moves to the big city with his mother to start anew. A random act of kindness to a stray cat (a talking cat, it turns out) sets Elmer off on an extraordinary voyage to Wild Island, home to beasts of all sizes, including a young dragon named Boris (Gaten Matarazzo.)
